The Engagement

Less than a month after we started dating, Katie and I were standing in my mother's kitchen cooking dinner, and Katie needed as she put it: "Some clarification, some commitment, some reassurance."

I took her face in my hands and told her: "Katie, we would never have started dating if it were for any purpose other than looking at the possibility of marrying. You see I am a firm believer that dating has but one purpose - Marriage."

In my heart I knew the truth we would be married. This was something that God has been setting up for the last three to four years, but that story has already been told.

About a week later we were traveling to Grandpa and Grandma Hevener's for Christmas Day

dinner. It was to be a surprise that I was coming along, and for the most part I think that it went off without a hitch. But when you are driving several hours to Ohio, it leaves a lot of time to take up and our conversation turned to marriage and children. Our talk about children will have to be penned at another time, but regarding the wedding we basically planned everything: who we would like to have involved in our wedding party, who we would like to do the wedding, where it would be held, etc. Some of the items would change and others would be kept. But we are missing a key player in our wedding planning.

As Katie and I have mentioned several times before, God had planning our day long before we started to think about it. He also started putting things in motion several years before we started planning.
